Hyperbaric Technician (Certified)
Department: Clinical Operations – Hyperbaric Medicine
Reports To: Medical Director / Hyperbaric Program Manager
Locations: Multi-site (travel required)
Position Summary
The Certified Hyperbaric Technician (CHT) is responsible for the safe, compliant, and effective delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) services. This role operates hyperbaric chambers, monitors patients throughout treatment, and ensures strict adherence to all clinical, safety, and regulatory standards.
This position supports a multi-site hyperbaric program and requires regular travel between company locations to ensure operational coverage, patient access, and program continuity.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical & Technical Operations
- Safely operate monoplace and/or multiplace hyperbaric chambers in accordance with physician orders, facility protocols, and NBDHMT standards
- Perform pre-treatment patient assessments, safety screenings, and contraindication checks
- Monitor patients, vital signs, and chamber parameters throughout HBOT sessions
- Respond appropriately to patient needs, clinical changes, and emergency situations
- Assist licensed providers with wound care services and adjunctive therapies as needed
Documentation & Compliance
- Accurately document all treatments, assessments, and events in the electronic medical record and hyperbaric treatment logs
- Maintain compliance with AAAHC, NBDHMT, OSHA, NFPA, CMS, and facility standards
- Participate in quality assurance, safety drills, and accreditation readiness activities
- Support incident reporting, equipment logs, and compliance audits
Equipment & Environment of Care
- Perform daily chamber inspections, safety checks, and routine preventive maintenance
- Identify and report equipment concerns, hazards, or operational risks
- Maintain a safe, organized, and regulation-compliant hyperbaric environment
Patient Experience & Education
- Educate patients and families on hyperbaric therapy procedures, safety expectations, and treatment protocols
- Provide compassionate, professional, and patient-centered care
- Support patient flow, scheduling coordination, and interdisciplinary communication
Multi-Site Support & Coverage
- Travel between designated company locations as assigned to provide hyperbaric technician coverage
- Support new program launches, staffing coverage needs, and volume surges
- Collaborate with leadership to ensure consistent clinical standards across all sites
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Certified Hyperbaric Technician (CHT) credential through the National Board of Diving & Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT)
- Current primary healthcare license or credential (RN, RT, EMT, Paramedic, Corpsman, or other approved profession)
- Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred)
- Demonstrated knowledge of hyperbaric safety standards and emergency protocols
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, and documentation skills
- Ability and willingness to travel between multiple office locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a hospital-based or outpatient hyperbaric medicine program
- Wound care or clinical outpatient experience
- Familiarity with AAAHC or other accreditation standards
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to assist patients, including positioning and transfers
- Ability to work in confined chamber environments
- Standing, walking, and bending for extended periods
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
- Reliable transportation for multi-site travel
